ITA: La Giostra é una band siciliana che da circa vent’anni continua a girovagare prendendo parte a numerose feste di stile medievale, rappresentazioni storiche ed eventi di musica etnica in Italia e all’estero. Partendo dalla Sicilia, culla del mondo antico, La Giostra si è spinta fino ad approdare ad altre terre come l’Algeria, l’Egitto, la Turchia, il Portogallo, il Sudafrica, la Tailandia, e ancora la Francia, la Germania, la Lituania, la Serbia, la Finlandia, per poi attraversare l’Atlantico alla volta della Bolivia, portando sempre con sé quella “frivolezza” musicale che la caratterizza e strizzando l’occhio a nuove forme culturali e tendenze stilistiche differenti, abbinando spesso, come  per gioco, alcune melodie medievali o canti profani in latino volgare con sonorità new age, pop o reggae. Il dialetto siciliano fa da padrone in alcune canzoni inedite o della  tradizione popolare quasi a voler riprendere la figura di  avi menestrelli come il Cantastorie, mettendo fra le rime alcune filastrocche usate quasi come scioglilingua sostenute da ritmi percussivi. Questo progetto rappresenta in modo piuttosto esplicito un “baule” che la band ha riempito nel corso di tanti viaggi di tutte le esperienze musicali, di confronti culturali, influenze stilistiche, jam session con musicisti di culture diverse, ma sotto un unico denominatore: la musica. Sperimentando l’abbinamento di voci di venditori ambulanti, di racconti e canti con gli strumenti a corda elettrificati e integrando le percussioni vere con la loop station che fa da supporto alla Ribeca, alla cornamusa e al flauto, La Giostra offre all’ascoltatore un insieme di salterelli, latin groove, oriental ambient o tarantelle dal sapore celtico e mediterraneo che accompagnate da un buon boccale di vino  o di birra invitano alla danza.

ENG: La Giostra is a Sicilian band that has been touring around for around twenty years, taking part in numerous Medieval and ethnic music festivals, and historical re-enactments. Sicily is the starting point of this adventure: from the cradle of the Western world La Giostra reached Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Portugal, South Africa, Thailand, France, Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Serbia, and overseas Bolivia, never losing its peculiar entertaining style, characterized by the influence of new cultural forms and different musical styles. La Giostra often combines medieval tunes or profane vulgar Latin songs with New Age, pop or reggae. Sicilian dialect is the language of several unreleased or popular songs, as it was traditionally with the figure of the ancient minstrel and the balladeer. Nursery rhymes and tongue twisters support the rhythm. La Giostra’s musical project is like a travel trunk, that the band has filled up, during its multiple trips, with a mixture of musical experiences, cultural and stylistic influences, jam sessions played with musicians from all around the world… all of this with something in common: Music! Like in a game, the musicians have experimented the match of street vendors’ voices, popular tales and songs with electric string instruments. Drums have been combined with the loop station, in support of the ribeca, the lyre, the bagpipe and the flute. La Giostra creates an amazing mix of saltarello, Latin groove, Oriental ambient and tarantellas with a hint of Celtic and Mediterranean atmospheres.
